Hemingway House in Oak Park under Contract

The Ernest Hemingway boyhood home went under contract on 3/8 of this year.  Located in Oak Park, it was converted nto a 3-flat, but retains much of its vintage 1906 charm. It sits on a 75 x 186′ lot, and was designed by architect H. Fiddelke.

Chicago Homes for Sale on Large Lots

The typical Chicago city lot is 25 x 125 – this means homes have either small rooms with a center hall, or, bigger rooms that connect via one side hall (bedrooms up) while the downstairs is open. Are you tired of this floor plan?

Oversized Chicago city lots are the answer!

If you live in a house that’s 37.5-50′ wide, you have many more options for floor plan layouts.

If you have a deep lot – 152-183′ deep – you can expand the back and still have lots of space inside.

I’m frequently asked to show homes on Chicago oversized lots, so I’ve put together a Buyer Tour of homes available TODAY in Chicago’s north side neighborhoods.  For this tour, I’ve included homes in Uptown, North Center, Lincoln Square, and Edgewater.  To view information and photos of these homes, select this link.

CHICAGO HISTORIC HOME OF THE WEEK

1454 W Hood

$ 579,900

Fresh for 2012, this Edgewater Glen 1911 home is a terrific buy!

It’s currently a 3 bedroom 2 bath home, and it’s very liveable as it is, yet there are options for increasing the # of bedrooms and baths very easily. The home sits on a 30′ wide lot, and there is a tall attic with plumbing stubbed in  – terrific space for a master suite!  The basement is large and clean – it could be used as a play room or finished out as needed.

The home has been fully rehabbed, and it’s in mint condition – just what today’s buyers are looking for!! Pictures are available at this link, but don’t be fooled – it’s staged so well that the photos don’t do it justice – you need to see it in person.

It’s not my listing – I’m just reporting that I think it’s a good buy for someone interested in historic Chicago homes in Edgewater – Chicago’s north side.

To see all single family homes for sale in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood, select this link.

If you are interested in finding out about home sales in  your area, please email Anne, who can either send a CMA via email or meet with you to discuss your home’s value.

New homes in Jacksonville come with record-setting rattlesnake!

Found in KB homes subdivision, south of Jacksonville…

15 foot Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake– the largest ever caught on record.

A little research (source unknown) revealed the following:

  • One bite from a snake this large contains enough venom to kill over 40 full grown men.
  • The head alone is larger than the hand of a normal sized man.
  • This snake was probably alive when George H. W. Bush was President.

A bite from those fangs would equal being penetrated by two 1/4 inch screwdrivers. A snake this size could easily swallow a 2 year-old child.

A snake this size has an approximately 5 and 1/2 foot accurate striking distance.

(The distance for an average size Rattlesnake is about 2 feet)

Judging by the size of the snake, it is estimated to weigh over 170 pounds.
